Identity Revealed: Jesus is the Son of God in Glory

The disciples saw Jesus’ humanity every day. But one day atop a high mountain, Jesus gave his disciples a glimpse of his divinity, his glory as the Son of God. After he came down from the mountain, Jesus went to Jerusalem to suffer and die. It is good for us to view Jesus in glory on the mountain. It prepares us for Lent, and it prepares us for life.

We welcome the Brass Group, SINE NOMINE under the direction of Dr. Patricia Backhaus. This ensemble was started during the pandemic and began playing in her driveway. As cooler weather approached, the group moved into her garage and then into the Fellowship Hall at Grace Lutheran Church, Waukesha where they could still practice – socially distanced. Eventually the members asked at their home churches if they would accept having the group play. One church asked, “What is your group’s name?” With some crazy banter the name was born, Sine Nomine, which means “without name” in Latin. It’s also the hymntune of one of our most beloved hymns, For All the Saints. These musicians are united in faith and come from six different WELS congregations. They perform hymntune-based literature, but with a good dose of everything from Praise band to traditional poly choral brass music and all to God’s glory.
